The Artist Talk series at Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) will present contemporary artist Richard Bruland, Saturday, July 13, sharing personal stories about his practice and career, and how a lifelong interest in music led to his opening Bebop Records and Fine Art, a small record store that doubled as a performance venue for the thriving underground music and art scene, in Reseda in 1982. The record store/art gallery/performance place became one of the best-known small venues with performers such as Los Lobos, Lucinda Williams and Beck gracing its stage, and artists such as Raymond Pettibon presenting early shows. The Artist Talk series takes place at 1 p.m. in SCIART’s Blackboard Gallery at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo. Admission is free to SCIART members, $10 for nonmembers.
