Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) is the reluctant star of the Rockford Peaches in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League of 1943, formed to keep the bats swinging while the male pros are at war. With her jealous sister Kit, who can throw a mean fastball, slugger Mae Mordabito (Madonna), her best bud Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell) and the rest of their endearing teammates, Hinson and the Peaches head to the World Series. Along the way, they win over skeptical sports fans and even their coach, Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), a washed-up ballplayer who finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his all-girl team. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail, on the fields and off, for generations of athletes. (Penny Marshall, 1992, PG, 128 min.)
