This nondenominational workshop will focus on developing a strong daily meditation practice, in alignment with the 11th Step of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The workshop will be led by Santa Barbara native, Tom Gore O’Brien. Tom is grateful to have recently celebrated 32 years of sobriety. Tom has been facilitating meditation workshops in maximum security prisons and beyond prison walls for 30 years. He has instructed business executives, legal and medical professionals, educators, students, therapists, and families during this time. Tom is a graduate of Crane Country Day School, the Thacher School and Wesleyan University, where he graduated with highest departmental honors. His work with prisoners took him, “upriver” many times to facilitate programs at the infamous max security prison, Sing Sing, which is located on the Hudson River in Ossining, New York.
Novice meditators are strongly encouraged to attend! There is plenty of room at the Alano Club, so feel free to invite your sponsor, sponsees and friends.
Participants are asked to arrive a few minutes early so that you can settle in, and we can start the program on time. It is suggested that participants bring a journal or notebook to record their experiences in the workshop.
Please dress comfortably, as we will be doing some gentle stretches at the beginning of the program ~ don’t worry, you won’t have to twist yourself into a pretzel.
“Normies” (those individuals without chemical dependence issues) are very welcome to attend. Inasmuch, as the techniques we will be studying and implementing in the workshop are beneficial to everyone who is interested in developing a steady and transformative practice.
For your further information, please see a feature article regarding Tom’s study and practice of meditation which appeared in the SB Independent. Just Google, “Santa Barbara Independent ~ Tom OBrien ~ Full Moon Meditations.”
