We just had a planned power outage for power line maintenance, and the copter spent a lot of time seemingly following the lines in our neighborhood, so I would venture to guess that it was electrical grid inspection going on.
WAY BACK WHEN IN SB: The End of Our Silent Movie Days
Is there info on what Films were shot there? The Flying "A" Studios operated largely in the late 1800's?

Wow. So about .5% of the SB County population is homeless. That's not a small number.

I appreciate what You are doing. This is great!

Santa Barbara is working hard on the issue, for both La Cumbre Plaza and the Paseo Nuevo. Unlike the Goleta Valley (and I loved what was once the "good land") SB city has distinct geographic limits, an historic small city squeezed between mountains and the ocean. Also: there are other factors: houses, including rentals, in the high fire sections of the city, can not get fire insurance...! The only way there will be affordable housing here is if it is made so unattractive, so like just about any city with tall stucco apartment buildings with no open space. With the Cearnal Collective designs, we're well on the path to that destination.

Where are they from? How many are truly native?

I agree that mass transit works and often works very well elsewhere! Maybe every Santa Barbara voter should be required to use the 101 between Sheffield Drive to Turnpike once/week between 3-5pm and 7-9 am, documenting what they see, at least one weekday/week for a month. ...I think a big problem for mass transit here is that so many voters do not appreciate how much traffic there already is in and through Santa Barbara and therefore do not push on their councilmembers who probably don't drive the 101 at those times. Assemblymember Gregg Hart tried for years to get mass transit and probably would support efforts on the state level if there was a large enough outcry here.

Gorilla = Twin. I'd forgotten having snapped the fascinating feature a mile North of Hwy.166 during a flight way back in February of 2012 (and then researched somewhat), that to me looked (still does) vaguely like a gorilla. The feature's common name on hiking & off-road websites is Twin Rocks. Not an apt name imo, since there are four distinct columns (all w/family resemblance). But maybe Quadruplet Rocks is less catchy? Bottom line: the southernmost rock is clearly visible from at least two stretches of 166, starting about 23.3 miles from 101. There's also apparently a culvert at Postmile (mile marker) 3317 where there's a turnoff from 166. That culvert (named Wild Cow!) apparently has a traveled gravel road on both sides of 166 in gMaps sat view, and there's a gravel road up to the rocks visible from that 166 mile marker in gMaps Street View. Maybe it's time for a drive to Santa Maria adding excursion to 166 mile 33.17 and on to Cuyama, returning via 33 thru Ojai?

I'd love to hear an update on him! He was something else. Injected a lot of humor here and kept some trolls in check. We need more of that!

LadyLove3816: Agreed. I miss his reports, too. He really kept us up to date. And made us laugh. Anyone know how he's doing?

White Supremacist Group Displayed Anti-Semitic Banner Over Highway 101 in Santa Barbara
There is a difference in being able to express oneself and in causing public disturbance. Hanging a banner in the public right of way transcends the protections of free speech, whether it is a hateful banner or an advertisement for a yard sale. The same goes for pro Palestine, pro Israel, pro Ukraine, pro Russia, MAGA, ANTIFA, or anyone else. Anything not attached to you or your property is obstructive. Blocking the Bay Bridge is obstructive. Gluing yourself to the freeway (public right of way) to protest oil is obstructive. It makes no difference that they feel that they are expressing their rights. They are free to walk around saying stupid hateful things if they want to. But to hang that banner and obstruct a foot bridge in a community they are not from, without permission from the local government to do so, is not protected by free speech.

Joe - what happens when you view it on FlightAware (tends to offer slightly more ownership details)? https://flightaware.com/live/airport_status_bigmap.rvt?airport=KSBA other than that I've got no clue as to your query :(

Sorry, GOLETA - I'm not moving anywhere. I'm not forcing anything on anyone. Just saying it is hard to implement a successful mass transit like the tyrannical "socialist" Europeans have because no one will use it, given the choice of having their own car and space. Maybe you should travel and see how other, more civilized countries live.

mm1970 - hit it on the head there. His ilk are always quick with a "solution" - just don't live here. Any attempt to explain or present ideas that are contrary to the simple mindedness is met with trolling and insults. We're luck to live in a state that's not governed by this type of all or nothing thought.

That is the American way. Americans can choose to have a car if they want. You sound like a Socialist - time for you to move. "Socialism is an economic and political philosophy encompassing diverse economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production, as opposed to private ownership. It describes the economic, political, and social theories and movements associated with the implementation of such systems"

Ah, here is your problem local: you like simple. It's understandable - complexity and nuance is hard and takes thought, brain power, and compromise. "Commute" sounds so simple - until it isn't. Teachers, as an example - why would they commute from Ventura if Ventura schools actually pay more than SB schools? Extrapolate that to everyone on the various pay scales - including doctors. (Have you heard about the OB/GYN shortage in town?) Affordable housing is necessary. How we get there (UCSB and cottage creating their own housing for employees, Section 8, affordable condos that are sale price fixed for 40-60 years, low cost apartments that are tied to being employed in SB in particular jobs) - is complicated.

I hear ya, Bird. :) Sometimes the time and expense of going to see something just doesn't seem worth it. I wonder what it is that makes it irresistible other times. I'm also curious whether the bloom is getting more intense or already fading. Our friend Nancy reported a bright yellow bloom at the Gaviota 101 curve. Maybe there's something special about chancing upon a colorful surprise on a familiar path.
