Op-Ed: Open Letter to the Santa Barbara City Council to Save the Hangars
The plan is to not ask the city for money . There is at least one nonprofit, ready to take charge of this project.

Cost v. Investment, and Expense v. Value come to mind in terms of this topic. How much do citizens care about investment in the value of community on the South Coast? I believe there's a Corsair at the Camarillo aviation history museum that would do an occasional flyby/visit, and the massive Chino museum has at least one that could stop going to and from their planned Santa Maria Airport extension museum. Plenty of aerospace here, along with youth outreach aviation & STEM programs. Is it difficult to imagine the restored hangars being a focal point for these and countless other regional activities and interests?

Yeh, enthusiasm is often subtle. ;D

Wow! Just read the City's page: https://flysba.santabarbaraca.gov/projects/general-western-aero-hangars Great info and photo slideshow on a few bits of the hangars' history.

Sometimes it's really difficult to tell when John is passionate about anything (🤡). Thanks for the 2015/09/17 "Silent Roar" Aviation,Flying,Happiness,People,Random,SB Region — John @ 07:21 ✈ tMo - Tom Thank You for following up with dates! (I couldn't copy/paste the letter because it sounded a tad too much like someone else wrote it.) Really appreciate the sentiment.

Maybe not much actual cost to the City and probably some income, S.C. Many of us will volunteer. Some will surely continue to donate. Civic minded corporations and businesses will probably provide support too. Once usable the hangars would have many potential historical uses, many of which have been suggested by Tom and others. Right now it's all about the City giving a green light. In the unlikely event it doesn't come together in a timely manner, the City can always bulldoze our heritage and put in a parking lot.

Tom, thanks for your years of tireless effort to save this gift to SB, and your leadership in assembling groups dedicated to getting it done.

How much will it cost to restore the hangers? With the city facing a large deficit, it doesn't seem like a good time to be asking for money.
Dates for Board of Supervisors Housing Element Rezone Hearings Announced
The governor wants us to build. And yeah, I’ve read all comments. No one’s misreading anything. Add people, add traffic, water usage, gridlock, etc. Try and understand basic principles of economics.

Of course many are - they’re staring at dollar$. How wee, this mandate has not come from property owners, has it? Who did it come from? Hint - he’s a cheesy guy with a big fake smile that thinks he’s the king of our Golden State.

Who could say it better than that, Tom. I appreciate all your efforts to document the rich history of our place. There are only a very few who do. Nice work.
Cachuma Lake on Sunday
BASIC - lol, that's all you got? A typo? Hate to burst your bubble, but that's how you spell "breading." ;)

“Breeding”…
Three Penguin Chicks Hatch at the Santa Barbara Zoo, the first since 2018
Great news. They are adorable!

Yep
Cachuma Lake on Sunday
TNKY - as far as I know, they're not trying to establish the steelhead in Cachuma, but rather preserve their downstream habitat. The concern was not about breading so much as it was about the stock rainbows interfering with/putting pressure on the existing steelhead in the river. Eating their young, competing for food, etc.
Assault Near Upper State Street
CoastWatch. Thank you for this. I kept wondering why I'd drive past on State St. and, in that particular area, I kept seeing scraggly beings stumbling around, some trying to cross in the middle of the street when there's heavy traffic, a few sleeping on the bus benches. This explains a lot to me.
