Santa Barbara City College Promise Rally Registered Almost 600 South Santa Barbara County School District Seniors
“The SBCC Promise has made a difference in the lives of thousands of local Santa Barbara students and their families,” shared SBCC Foundation Chief Program Officer Rachel Johnson. This is an understatement! Increasing the availability of higher education goes against the tides of soaring college fees and SBCC is a high quality school. An important point, however is that this is not just a SBCC program, it is a California program, and there is even a 4-year CSU Promise program available. Folks can find out which colleges are participating here: https://www.calstate.edu/apply/freshman/getting_into_the_csu/pages/the-california-promise-program.aspx

After a State Audit, County Will Tweak Cannabis Licensing
I agree with SB stoner here! The damage has been done. Das spearheaded the effort to prostitute South county to the organized, well funded conglomerate of pretend whitewashed business structures, not actual small private people and destroyed the county in the way this was conducted. The audit while somewhat informative, changes nothing about this. At least Carp made a stand at the voting booth. Terrible how some bad politicians can ruin the quality of lives of so many. FYI, I do not live or own property in Carp or Torro Canyon, but each time I drive through, I am sad and feel for the people who do. Can't wait for this ....to be out!

SBUSD and CSEA Reach Tentative Agreement to Add an Optional Mediation Step in the Grievance Procedure
What is the point of the district leadership dragging this out. We need our teachers and should treat them with respect for their commitment despite the district continueing to drag it/s feet and create ambiguity. This has been hard on teachers and parents. Our most vulnerable students are suffering many are unable to take the A- G's , We need a model that prioritizes the unmet needs of the vulnerable students as well as the success of all students. So many times our MTSS, multi system of supports.. offers too little support far too late. We dont begin testng until the 3rd grade. Why not test all in 1st and offer whatever is needed, generously. Being proactive will reduce special ed costs by 70% and enable 95 proficiency by end of 1st if fully implemented. Instead of a top down model we need a bottom up one. One that prioritizes the unmet needs of the students teachers, para educators..

Up & Down: Sierra Madres to Santa Barbara
Is that a ridgeline hiking trail or a game trail in the snowy peak pic?

Anyone want to guess what the small dots are on the rock at the bottom of the Tangerine Falls pic?

Thanks Ando! Great having a name for such a magnificent secret place. It's about a mile East of the Painted Cave turnoff and below 154 near the small unmarked road to newish homes on the upper side of 154. Quite a steep ravine that doesn't seem to have a name despite there being water down in those pools every time we've seen it from the air. Even running water at the depths of our last drought. Any idea how it got the name Tier Drop? I guess because there are distinct different pools and grooves in the rock at different levels? I get the sense maybe you've been there.

No, no one mentioned a "certain curriculum" nor did anyone bring up DEI issues. YOU DID. 100% YOU. So again, ask yourself: why did you start ranting about learning about the struggle of others in college on a thread that has nothing to do with that? Oh wait, you answered already: "call me a bigot...."

You and “Anon” mentioning how education of a certain curriculum leads to less conservative voters is interesting, I hardly “highjacked” anything. I guess it’s ok to vote liberal if it’s a case of peer pressure / closed doors if you don’t. Pretty bigoted if you ask me.

"everything conservative having to do with Texas or Florida" And what exactly are those? They're the demonization of the values of the Enlightenment, of secularism and the rights of women and minorities, the enactment of theocratic and autocratic policies, attacks on labor and the working class, attacks on and denial of science, the use of xenophobia and racism to mobilize support for these thuggish right wing pols, etc. ad nauseam.

Bigotry is indeed an ideology. And if your education had actually taught you anything, you would realize how history and politics are entwined. It is people with your political ideology who are using their political power to suppress the teaching of the history of racism and the other bigotries you swim in.

English yes, reading (what YOU said) should have already been taught by the time you're in college. Learning about others and taking a critical and more advanced view of history and doing more than just "the basics" is what college courses should be about. No one is forcing you to learn about racism in bio-chem or mechanical engineering class, so spare us the sobbing. Think on this. Why are you so against DEI (presumably what you're crying about) being taught in college that you highjacked this thread that had nothing to about it and no one mentioned it just to complain and cry about having to learn about the struggle and history of people other than yourself? YOU started the rant out of nothing. That's sad.

Adding /s may be necessary on this board as some people say such things and mean them.
