You use the term insurrection like it is a bad thing, yet it was used to get England out of our pockets.

I merely pointed out we were started with an insurrection. With our current state of affairs another could be on the table.
Why are Local Doctors Charging Monthly Fees?
This is the main reason I go to the ER for all needs. Haven't see my (former) primary doctor since initial COVID protocols implemented in 2020.

The colleges and universities should really rely on actual convictions to impose sanctions on students rather than their ridiculous some smelling internal processes / kangaroo courts that are not transparent and wholly susceptible to undue influence, incorrect and unfair conclusions, much less costly civil litigation. Real simple: convicted = sanctioned or booted on an open and evenly applied basis. They won’t do it.

Thanks Ms Gott for a thorough review and statement of facts and issues. Whether I concur or not, I appreciate your consistent and thoughtful contributions as a citizen over several years. The CBID needs to form and be a player along with the city and community in building cohesive world class long term plans for downtown. Needs to be done soon. We don’t have a few centuries but more like 5 years and then where things are then will be paradigm and crowded and it will be a lot harder to make changes. Tinkering like this may have significant unintended short term consequences especially when the money can be more justifiably found in TOT increase ($20 a night is not going to discourage an $400 spend and if it’s nicer overall for visitors we will all get more $$) and judicious CUTTING of COSTS (yes I know very unlikely). Those parking lots are golden developable parcels in a well planned urban core. We will actually need MORE PARKING DT SOON when 5,000 more souls are living there. I think the city needs to think out of the box and consider this issue from a longer term business perspective and as part of an overall downtown plan. Partnering with national scale developers to create larger multistory parking lots on some of the parcels and smart mixed use development on others could generate a mountain of cash up front and long term cash flow in well structured partnerships.
Op-Ed: Project Disconnect descends upon Old Town
You make a lot of good points, but I bet in all of the cars--big SUVs--in your traffic photos there sits only one measly person. Why take a car through old town--ride a bike, and leave the car traffic to those who can bicycle. Better for everyone.

Yes, 90 minutes was good. The current 75 minutes is not so good, but tolerable. 60 minutes seems stingy, and not encouraging. I’d like the city to find other ways to raise money. Charging us to park tends to discourage me to go downtown.
Goleta City Facilities Move to 100% Renewable Energy
GETTHE - please read actual science and news on the industry. I've provided it too many times to count here over the years.
Goleta City Facilities Move to 100% Renewable Energy
Since you don't seem to be really following the specifics of the carbon economy, you should maybe be made aware that carbon extraction refers to the extraction of fossil carbon for use as fuel. And, you still don't get it that you are ignoring all the harmful activities and massive subsidies involved in carbon extraction, which persist for the lifetime of the vehicle or device, and also the resources needed to produce the vehicles, which you ascribe only to EVs. Renewable harm far less wildlife than the petrochemical industries. You're just parroting con propaganda from the social media bubble you inhabit.

Rub - Spoken like a true victim of brainwashing, with an original that was not pre-shrunk. What kind of idiot would equate an attempt to institute a dictatorship in this nation with the founding of our country by overthrowing a monarchical rule? The GOP has certainly reaped its reward for pandering to greed and ignorance for the last 50 years or so.
Goleta City Facilities Move to 100% Renewable Energy
What do you mean monetary costs of "carbon extraction"; science is just now researching carbon capture..... I am a realist. Even if you drive an EV you are polluting particulates with weight of the vehicle on the tires on roads. Materials in vehicles, wind turbines, and solar panels and new transmission lines need minerals and lands that are extracted. Anonymous and other people must really research the devastation renewable farms do to wildlife because of the equivalent amount of land needed to produce kilowatts. Solar or wind farms are killing thousands of birds and flying animals and insects and are not the answer to saving the environment. Decimating other species and radically altering the environment is what we humans do. My point is by throwing all this money at renewables for the sake of the environment is not for the sake of the environment. There will be other energy sources we have yet to discover and we will need to just to power more AI.

RUBAIYAT - please... PLEASE.... let me buy you a history book that wasn't published in Texas or Florida. My treat, seriously. What our founding fathers rebelled against was a real thing. Jan 6 was based on KNOWN LIES. Very un-American of you to diminish the Revolution and creation of our country like that.

"students who assault, harass and intimidate their peers or physically block them from attending class — as reportedly happened to Jewish students at UCLA this week — did not deserve to benefit from the Cal Grant program." - absolutely. Any student who physically assaults or intimidates others should be punished to some degree, even suspended or expelled, depending on the degree of the offense. However, let's not forget that most of the protesters in the encampments have been peaceful, albeit perhaps in violation of school camping rules. Those protesters should be immune from any punishment beyond the normal sanctions for those violations, if at all. I just hope that also goes for the violent Anti-Palestinian counter protesters who beat and attacked other students for hours at UCLA without any intervention by the police who were standing there watching. It is funny though, how rapid and vengeful Republicans get about protesters who stand for something they don't, like end to racial injustice and police violence against black people, end to oppression, occupation and bombing innocent children, etc.....

The City of Santa BaBarbara doesn't allow parking meters. This is why kiosks need to be purchased and used. The Circulation Element says: Downtown Public Parking Pricing. Work with stakeholders to develop a public on-street parking program that will reduce commuter use of the customer parking supply and increase the economic vitality of Downtown. Any parking pricing program shall not include the installation of individual parking meters.
