100 Days after Republican Filibuster, Rep. Carbajal Calls for Vote on Bipartisan Border Security Package
Apparently you choose to ignore the fact that many countries have much better public health systems than we do, even less prosperous countries.

"Why would anyone believe they were vaccinated?" - Because contrary to your apparent beliefs, they're not uneducated animals, they're people too and those with a brain most likely got vaccinated. Or wait, are you saying you really believe Latin American countries don't have the vaccine? Either way, the ignorance is astounding.

If you think the border is open, please try crossing it, and get back to us. Con social media bubbles promote these fallacies about an open border to cater to the fascist anti-immigrant stances of rethuglicans.

Seriously? Why would anyone believe they were vaccinated? I am just pointing out the hypocrisy. People were fired for not being vaccinated, kids were kept out of school, and so on, yet it's perfectly OK to let people enter our country with no background checks, let alone having no idea if they were vaccinated or not. Again, what is the reasonable explanation for why Biden opened the border?

SBsurfer are you referring to the cages the "Deporter in Chief" Barak Obama built? Speaking of kids, the Center for Immigration Studies (https://cis.org/Arthur/Biden-Administration-Lost-Yes-Lost-Nearly-20000-Migrant-Children) states the Biden administration has lost track of nearly 20,000 kids. Bi-partisan bill? Four Republicans voted for it. 4! Again, there is no need for it. Joe has the presidential authority to shut down the border NOW. Again, what reasonable explanation do you have for why Biden opened the border?
Masked Agitators Harassing People on State Street this Weekend
Yes! Very happy! I think that is an extremely sound action. I cannot believe it but I am agreeing with the SAC man. AND if I were there, I would back you to the hilt. 100%!!!
Old Town Antiques Announces Closure of Downtown Santa Barbara Shop
Well THAT'S damning of landlords. Not like they don't know the state of retail.
Op-Ed: Politicians Keep Shifting Blame as California’s Homelessness Crisis Worsens
Walters is an editorial writer. Generally, Cal Matters' news is balanced.

Why? What purpose does my answer to a hypothetical serve you? Honestly though, I'd get in their faces and hope they touched me. Does that make you happy now?

Disagree all you want. You're wrong. Doesn't matter to me either way.

So if they were, please explain to us exactly what you would do?
Old Town Antiques Announces Closure of Downtown Santa Barbara Shop
"forced to close after the landlord increased their monthly rent by $1,000" - which is why we need to open State st. so cars can drive up and down it. Right?

ANON - how do you know they were "unvaccinated?" Also, aren't those the type of folks you Trump folks love?
Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Traffic Collision at State and Mission Streets
Somewhat unrelated but E-Bikes on the sidewalk on State have been an issue for a while. When someone is seriously hurt then the city may be held responsible for not enforcing safety rules. Skateboards, scooters and E-Bikes should not be on the sidewalks!!!! NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES ON THE SIDEWALK!!!!!!!!
Op-Ed: Politicians Keep Shifting Blame as California’s Homelessness Crisis Worsens
Yep, when I first started reading these articles by Cal Matters, I checked them on the media bias site and was actually surprised they are considered "left leaning." Definitely not "balanced" reporting or commentary in these. That's fine, really, but it was surprising given the rating.
100 Days after Republican Filibuster, Rep. Carbajal Calls for Vote on Bipartisan Border Security Package
Are referencing Biden repealing the Trump administration policies that separated migrant children from their parents and stored them in jail-like cages without basic necessities then took months to reunite them with their parents, if they ever did... is that the policy you're referring to? Your comment is also completely ignoring the BIPARTISAN immigration bill that would have been more strict than trump's policies but GOP lackey Mike Johnson refused to bring to a vote because it would have overwhelmingly passed and Trump ordered him to do this so Biden didn't have a win on immigration reform. No administration, GOP or Dem, has ever solved immigration but one party continues to use this talking point as a weapon to scare and infuriate dim-witted Americans.

I agree with your observations about Dan Walters. He has become pretty negative after decades of balanced coverage.
Op-Ed: Politicians Keep Shifting Blame as California’s Homelessness Crisis Worsens
I used to read Dan Walters very dependable work when he was at the Sacramento Bee and reported on state government. Now at Cal Matters he has devolved into a purely curmudgeon role. I can't even tell what his opinion is of CA's homeless situation, other than he doesn't like Gavin Newsom. Maybe he just wants to be able to bulldoze any homeless camp he doesn't like, because ^we all know that solves the problem^. Some places, like some European countries have reduced their homeless population by providing a basic income and basic housing, but that probably wouldn't work in CA for lots of reasons. I certainly don't have any solutions and neither apparently does Dan. Maybe that's his point: it's a very difficult problem to solve.
The state of State: What Would it Take to Rescue Santa Barbara’s State Street?
Thanks for the explanation, but isn't something like this what Detroit has done? (Go easy on me, I'm very undereducated on municipal tax policies!) That city provided something like what you describe for all property owners and it turned whole neighborhoods into wastelands that no one was maintaining. I understand you are saying a TIF is only for certain commercial properties, but if businesses are given a pause on prop tax, what is their incentive and timeline to get their property actively earning again and help the wider community?
The state of State: What Would it Take to Rescue Santa Barbara’s State Street?
Well, if it's not a "road" then there are no cars and they can't enforce moving violations.....because there are no cars so....yeah. Look, I get that there's less foot traffic, but there are a LOT of factors involved so I still don't see how cars driving by a business will fix all of them or increase foot traffic. Has no one provided an actual study or something other than unfounded speculation and anecdotes?
