Sheriff Reports Crime Decrease in 2023 with Some Categories Ranked the Lowest in Ten Years
It's still down from being 383 in 2014, but I suppose if you isolate that one metric then in 2023 "violent crimes" were third highest in the past ten years.

Farewell, old friends. We will miss your shade and your majestic beauty.
Sheriff Reports Crime Decrease in 2023 with Some Categories Ranked the Lowest in Ten Years
Lies, damn lies, and statistics! Of course, the Sheriff cherry-picks the statistics and spins them in a way that makes him look good. There are other ways of looking at the crime statistics. For example, the Violent Crime Total in all jurisdictions went up 26% from 2019 to 2023 (299 vs 377). The Sheriff didn't mention that!
Rep. Carbajal Announces $7,000,000 in New Federal Housing Grants for Central Coast
There is no " ‘build it and they will come’ (sic)" policy. They're not building affordable housing to attract people to the state. But, I agree, more building isn't the answer. We need to use existing buildings such as vacant malls and stop turning them into more hotels for the rich. The focus should be on housing for those who work in SB that provide necessary services for those who can afford to live here. I'm talking about teachers, first responders, medical and legal staff, maintenance, etc
Fundraiser Created for Owner of Las Alturas Home Destroyed in Landslide
It’s an “earth movement” and therefore excluded from most standard homeowners’ policies. As is damage from earthquakes.

Crime is the lowest it's been in 10 years? I guess that's Newsom's fault! /s
Op-Ed: After Losing Population in Recent Years, California is Starting to Grow Again. Is that a Good Thing?
ROT13 cipher
The state of State: What Would it Take to Rescue Santa Barbara’s State Street?
Online purchases are here to stay, obviously. That’s not even in the debate. State St. businesses have to offer stuff you can’t just order off Amazon - unique items and experiences - restaurants, bars, etc. But the basic problem is it’s pretty pathetic down there in terms of any enjoyable experience. It’s nasty. Look, the city council can debate this forever and waste a shit ton of money and time if they want at this rate. It’s pointless. Pick an option, and move on with it. Either cars or no cars probably won’t make much difference in restoring the vitality of State if it doesn’t get cleaned up first.
Rep. Carbajal Announces $7,000,000 in New Federal Housing Grants for Central Coast
Yikes Salud! Where do you think the water will come from? I believe the current ‘build it and they will come’ policy in our state is totally flawed. We’re rapidly outstretching out natural resources and diminishing our quality of life.
Op-Ed: After Losing Population in Recent Years, California is Starting to Grow Again. Is that a Good Thing?
BASIC - no, YOU"RE WRONG. Again. Before you talk down to me about "spouting about healthcare policy," read the words I actually wrote, not the ones you imagine I did. You're saying the same thing I did, you just apparently don't have the faculty to understand that, kid.
Op-Ed: After Losing Population in Recent Years, California is Starting to Grow Again. Is that a Good Thing?
It's a substitution cipher. That particular comment says: "No one said they don t get free medical care. Why are you right wingers so f****** stupid and illiterate?" The others are similar. The sentiments are agreeable, even if the wording is not so nice.

Bravo!
Op-Ed: Politicians Keep Shifting Blame as California’s Homelessness Crisis Worsens
This article is certainly less curmudgeonly than much of his recent work, which is frequently peppered with pejoratives specifically about Newsom and pretty much anything connected with the Democratic party. Although it is an Op/Ed it's not really clear to me what his "Op" is.
Masked Agitators Harassing People on State Street this Weekend
The law is quite specific: If a person believes that the actions of another are a threat to them, the person who believes that they are threatened can defend themselves. If anyone gets in my face or space I consider it a threat. These masked people are cowards and bullies.
Old Town Antiques Announces Closure of Downtown Santa Barbara Shop
Cost living has increased 20% since 2020, not the landlords fault.
Masked Agitators Harassing People on State Street this Weekend
Hey JIMBO - so you'd be totally fine with some masked men taunting your kid while filming it? Hm, didn't take you for a pushover.
Pruning and Removal of Select Anapamu Street Italian Stone Pines to Begin Next Month
I used to drive down Anapamu to go to work. The HUGE pine cones would drop each year. Marvelous sculptures 7” high. I’d pull over and gather some to use for decoration at Christmas and to give to friends. I always wonder if they fell on the cars beneath—hoped they didn’t cause damage. Beautiful trees but time to go.
Op-Ed: Politicians Keep Shifting Blame as California’s Homelessness Crisis Worsens
I don't see what is curmudgeonly about this article.... seems to me it's a pretty straightforward report on the current state of the politics on the homeless problem. It's not Dan's job to solve the problem, it's his job to tell us what's going on in Sacramento. And I don't read this as like or dislike of Newsom, just calling him on how he's changed.
