AnonymousSANTA BARBARA, CA (February 22, 2021) — Worldhealer, Inc. a local 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to global awareness and developing leadership skills for teens and young adults, has just been awarded $3000 by the Fund for Santa Barbara’s Youth Making Change (YMC) grant program for its Teen Global Awareness Club (GAC) Program.
Worldhealer was created in 2008 based on the belief that fostering the intellectual and personal growth of young people worldwide would encourage a positive global future of social equity and sustainable economic and community development. Its Teen GAC program is a six-week, cyclical after-school program that provides workshops on global cultures and social justice issues to teens in grades 7-12. The workshop content is award winning, with its on-site college club having received the Organizational Excellence Award for Best Anti-Bias Program from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2020.
“Teen GAC is led by college-aged students who develop the global awareness workshops and learn to run all aspects of a business by leading Worldhealer; as they gain professional leadership and entrepreneurship skills, they then pass it onto the teens,” said Roxana Bonderson, Founder and Executive Director of Worldhealer. “The participants learn the importance of mentorship, philanthropy and civic engagement, which in turn empowers them to continue community involvement on their own in the future”. We have served over 50 teens and 65 young adults since transitioning online during the pandemic and this generous grant will enable us to greatly expand and enhance our program.”
The Teen GAC program is currently operating over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic and is free of charge to participating teens. No application or previous experience is required to join the program.
