Santa Barbara, CA – Wood Glen Hall has a new executive director who brings not only a focus on health and nutrition, but a strong sense of family and desire to serve aging adults.
Jeff LaBelle, who holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and nutritional science from Colorado State University and an advanced degree in geriatrics from the University of Central Florida, was recently named to the position.
A nonprofit retirement residence with affordable independent and assisted living, Wood Glen Hall, located at 3010 Foothill Road, has a 65-year history in Santa Barbara providing comfortable living, quality care and a thriving community for seniors.
LaBelle grew up with three brothers, the son of a chemist father and mother who worked as a doctor. His father was found to have Alzheimer’s disease at an early age, and LaBelle says that diagnosis changed his own career trajectory. He decided to pursue an advanced degree in geriatrics and go into the healthcare field after his father’s passing.
LaBelle has a passion for assisting and educating families on senior living, assisted living, neurological disease, and promoting a proactive lifestyle to reduce dementia risk factors. Over the last five years, he has done a deep dive into clinical studies focused on neurological diseases to better understand his father’s fate and to educate others.
LaBelle and his wife were blessed with their amazing daughter who graduated UCLA. He enjoys exercising, especially jogging near the ocean, and hiking the hills and mountains that make California a special place to live.
“I am honored to be part of a great team and a very special community here at Wood Glen Hall,” he said.
Wood Glen Hall was founded 65 years ago by Aileen and Adrian Wood with the intention of providing “elderly men and women with an ideal, non-institutional home at minimum cost.”
Wood Glen Hall residents enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle that provides stimulation and engagement. A full-time activities coordinator organizes regular activities, classes and special events on site. It’s a place where you’ll find Flamenco dancers during Fiesta in Santa Barbara, an Independence Day barbecue, a historian portraying Abe Lincoln, classic car parade, Halloween happenings and more.
Music, art, exercise classes and games are available seven days a week. Performers, speakers, community leaders and others visit for special events regularly.
Residents also enjoy easy access to a number of on-site services and spaces to make life enjoyable, safe and relaxing, including a beauty salon, barbershop, laundry facility and meditation room. There’s also a gardening area, walking path, courtyard and beautiful shade trees on the east lawn with ample seating areas for everyone’s enjoyment.
The property is perfectly located above the cooler temperatures of the beaches and below the warm canyons of the foothills, which provides its residents with year-round access to sunshine and fresh air.
