The Channel Islands YMCA Youth and Family Services is launching its 1st Annual Backpack Give Back on Wednesday, August 19th to support community at-risk youth and provide the necessary tools to prepare them for the coming school year. Although the pandemic has caused substantial disruption in the community, the YMCA remains committed to support youth development, healthy living, social responsibility, and families.
Many of our community at-risk youth lack the basic supplies, such as backpacks, to hold and keep their learning material and personal items safe throughout the school year. Starting on Wednesday, August 19th through September 9th, the Channel Islands YMCA Youth and Family Services will hold its 1st Annual Backpack Giveback for children 12 to 18 years old. The community is encouraged to donate their new or unused backpacks at various drop off locations, including the Montecito Family YMCA, Santa Barbara Family YMCA or the St. George YMCA Youth Center in Isla Vista.
The YMCA Youth and Family Services is seeking to collect up to 50 empty backpacks for its first backpack donation drive. These backpacks will be distributed to youth at the YMCA Youth and Family Services shelters during the beginning of the school year.
