Family Service Agency (FSA) of Santa Barbara County is pleased to welcome the organization’s new Deputy Executive Director, Steven DeLira. The new position was created as part of the July 1 merger between FSA and Santa Maria Valley Youth and Family Center (SMVYFC) to form one countywide organization that will provide mental health counseling, basic needs assistance and case management services to more than 28,000 individuals annually. DeLira will be located at the SMVYFC office at 105 N. Lincoln Street.
DeLira’s commitment to at-risk youth and the community is well known through his 30-year career with the Santa Barbara County Probation Department, beginning in 1987 as Juvenile Institutions Officer, and most recently as Deputy Chief Probation Officer since 2009 until retiring from the department in February. As Probation Manager from 2005 – 2009, DeLira managed the renowned Los Prietos Boys Camp and Los Prietos Boys Academy, and throughout his career has managed collaborations and services provided by Santa Barbara County Education and many other County departments and community-based organizations.

DeLira earned his BA in Public Sector Management from California State University Northridge in 2006 and Associate’s Degree in General Education from Allan Hancock College. DeLira’s professional credentials include membership in the California Probation Parole and Correctional Association (CPPCA), California Association Probation Institutions Administrators (CAPIA) and California Association of Probation Services Administrators (CAPSA). He is an active member of La Purisima Catholic Church in Lompoc and the Knights of Columbus, Council 3570.
DeLira has been an active member of various committees for Lompoc Unified School District and La Purisima Catholic School.
