Extended Opportunity Programs Summer Bridge Graduation Ceremony at SBCC

Santa Barbara City College’s Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) will hold a graduation ceremony for over 125 students who have completed the Running Start, SPARC and Transition Programs.

The SBCC EOPS Summer Bridge Graduation will be held on Thursday, August 3 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Shoreline Beach Picnic Area.

This ceremony will be celebrating the three Summer Bridge programs, which include approximately 70 students graduating from Running Start, 30 students graduating from Transitions and 25 students graduating from SPARC.

Each of these three programs caters to a particular need in the Santa Barbara community. The Running Start program is geared toward working with local high school students completing the 12th grade, Single Parents Arriving Ready for College (SPARC) program works with single parent students, and the Transitions program is designed to work with individuals released from the California criminal justice system.

“All three programs seek to serve some of our most at-risk populations in the community and at SBCC,” said Paloma Arnold, Director of EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs. “Each student completes college credit classes, tutoring, he/she learns about campus resources and attends weekly fields trips aimed at creating new experiences.”

The goals of these Summer Bridge programs are to provide access to higher education and to ensure students have a smooth transition to college.

“More importantly, they develop a support network to promote their success at SBCC and beyond,” Arnold said.
