Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Names Dr. Scott Whiteley Executive Director

The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) announced the appointment of Dr. Scott Whiteley to the position of Executive Director. Dr. Whiteley assumed the role July 2, 2019, following the retirement of Edwin Stonefelt, who had served at CADA’s helm since 2013.
“On behalf of CADA’s Board and staff, we want to thank Ed for his years of dedication and many important contributions to our organization, our clients and our greater community,” said Kristen Parrish, Chair of CADA’s Board of Trustees. “We wish him and his family the very best as they take this next step together.

“Scott comes to us with demonstrated success at leading the critical work of local nonprofit organizations,” said Ms. Parrish. “He brings deep clinical expertise and broad administrative skills that will be very instrumental in taking CADA to the next level in serving the growing needs of our community. We are very pleased to welcome him to the team.”

Dr. Whiteley was formerly Director of Prevention and Treatment at Child Abuse Listening Mediation, where he assisted with the launch of programs and services in northern Santa Barbara County. While with the County, he served as Program Manager for the Santa Barbara ACT Program; Program Manager for Child and Family Services; and Clinical Psychologist for the Multiagency Integrated System of Care. Dr. Whiteley’s early professional experience includes positions as Director of Student Research for the Chancellor’s Office and Assistant Dean of Students at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).
Dr. Whiteley has significant teaching experience. He was an Assistant Professor, Counseling Psychology, at the University of Southern California. A licensed psychologist, Dr. Whiteley received a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from UCSB.
“I am very pleased to join such an outstanding agency whose work is so vital to the health of our community,” said Dr. Whiteley. “CADA has an extremely talented staff, and a strong, engaged and supportive Board. Everyone associated with the Agency is deeply committed to delivering quality programs that improve lives and help our community thrive. Together, we will build on the solid foundation of this outstanding organization as we continue to expand our impact to assist those who depend on us.”
