On July 15, 2018, 18-year-old Mariah Lyons of Lompoc entered the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Main Jail facility on narcotic related charges. Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies called the Classification Unit and advised that Lyons may be concealing more contraband on or in her person.
Lyons was removed from a holding cell and escorted to the medical treatment room in the Inmate Reception Center. Custody Deputies informed Lyons that they believed she was concealing contraband on or in her person and was instructed to give the contraband up immediately. Lyons removed a large packet of what appeared to be drugs from inside of her person. Upon further investigation, the packet was found to be concealing three baggies of a substance.
The substances were weighed and tested. One packet weighed 44.2 grams and tested presumptive positive for heroin. The second substance weighed 25 grams and tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The amount of drugs is estimated to have an in custody value of approximately $12,000.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office will be charging Lyons with sales, possession in the facility and conspiracy to introduce narcotics into the facility. She is being held on $280,000 bail.
She’s in trouble with whoever paid for this to be done. They will likely want their money back somehow. What a dumbass. Nice catch deputies.
Quite the smack in the a**!
Putting this sort of stuff on Edhat, along with the mug shot, is not unlike public stocks in the colonies. Embarrassing to the 18 year old but also embarrassing to the community to see how people react with petty comments and gleeful smirks.
RHS – I agree. Unless it is a crime that involves the public safety (drugs in prison does not), then at least spare the mug shots. What good does it do? Obviously, these things aren’t “deterrents,” as people are still committing stupid crimes every day.
It usually goes something like: She gets busted for small time narcotics possession and is then bailed out by friends/family. She gets her day in court and is found guilty. It’s a low level crime so she goes home again on bail and later comes back to court for sentencing. Usually they’ll go straight to jail after sentencing. So she knows that she’ll probably do time walking into the sentencing hearing. And her friends gave her a going away party the night before. With a gift package. This is someone’s daughter and it makes me very sad.
