Experienced responsible hikers would go out early in the morning with lots of water with an established route in mind and a timetable so it’s not just a matter of luck getting back to the car as the sun is peaking the heat building. I’ve lost count of the number of times coming down from Cathedral Peak at the hottest time of the day and see folks just starting the hike with barely a 16oz bottle of water in their hot little hands (so it’s a fair bet the empty does not get hiked out of there).
I thought they knew where they was but I guess not they are still looking…Why do people go hiking when it’s friggen hot and get lost?
They have both subjects Search and Rescue are walking them out.
During a major heat advisory you should hike at the crack of dawn. If you do decide to go later you pack twice the amount water you’d normally take, wear a hat and keep a bandana for wetting in the creek and keep it wrapped around the neck. I hope the hikers are ok 🙂
OK, time to hush it on downvoting. Edhat is deleting (permanently) any comments related to it.
