Just before 9:00 a.m. this morning, on July 26, 2018, additional human remains were found on the shoreline at Campus Point near UC Santa Barbara. The remains consisted of a femur, fibula and tibia. The found bones are suspected to be associated with human remains, a head and torso, found on July 24, 2018 in the ocean near Camino Pescadero Park in Isla Vista.
The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Department of Justice to gather DNA evidence and compare the records of missing persons in the Tri-County area. Based on the preliminary dental record comparisons, the decedent does not appear to be the missing 17-year-old victim from the 1/9 Debris Flow disaster.
Due to the level of decomposition, further determination as to age, sex and the identity of the remains will take time. As soon as a positive identification is made and next of kin is notified, the Sheriff’s Office will release the identity of the decedent. The Coroner’s Office is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death to determine a cause and manner of death.

Seems to be a body recovery now
Located a torso….divers searching for more remains.
Thanks for the info…
Oh man! I hope that they can identify the body so the people missing them can have some closure.
A torso? What? Not a whole body?
@1426 Probably so the family can have closure.
It would be nice for them to lay their son to rest.
He seems to be the only missing person around here that most know about.
Pattern recognition. Humans routinely attempt to see relatedness of events. It’s why we see faces where there is none. We want to make sense of things. Sometimes we are wrong.
It is human nature to speculate, why do you think some people become detectives. You have to speculate to even begin collecting evidence and facts. Who ever this is may they finally Rest In Peace.
My first thought was that it will be Jack Canton, missing since the mudslide. I hope so, I’m sure it will hurt but bring closure to his family, and to community as well.
I hope in rush to dump mud at Goleta beach that isn’t how those remains ended up in IV.
Seems odd for Jack Canton to be in Isla Vista since that is up current from mudslide and even the poison mud dumped on Goleta Beach. I suppose anything is possible and it would be nice for him to be found. Sad as it all is.
Why is everyone so certain about who it might be? I’m just curious, not trying to be snarky or anything.
Why the rush for authorities to state yet again: “Lt. Kevin Huddle said at the time that there were no indications of foul play. ” ?
