Would it be too much to ask the local police to help with the traffic jams that occur during major accidents on the 101? It took me 1.5 hours to get from Carrillo to the 154 yesterday. Typically a 10-minute commute at most. I knew there was an accident near El Sueno, so I jumped off the freeway and drove Foothill. Apparently so did everyone else.
Foothill and San Roque could have used traffic control. The people entering from San Roque used up the entire light going BOTH ways, which allowed the Foothill traffic to have ONE car per light.
Hard to believe the cops wouldn’t respond to a break in. If so, call the police chief to complain as that is unacceptable. One way to reduce traffic is for everyone who came after 1970 to move away, unless born in Santa Barbara. Less traffic, more housing for all the natives who have to live in Ventura or Lompoc.
Maybe call in and request help they are pretty busy cannot be everywhere at once, they don’t read minds either.
I always check google maps before leaving and know that if the 101 is solid red with traffic, foothill and state will also be a mess. If every smartphone owning person has this information, why can’t the SBPD station 4-5 cars at strategic intersections to make the traffic smoother? The won’t even roll on breakins in my neighborhood, so what exactly are they doing?
Many of people don’t seem to understand that there are too many people living in the city for there to be any sort of safe/open escape if it were needed. You seriously want police to save you drive time because of an accident? They are probably laughing at this. I agree with mattyboy who says if you’re in traffic your part of the problem.
Seriously… what can the cops do? Keep people from being selfish dinks when they run red lights just to get stuck in the intersection? The world is full of morons and there aren’t enough cops to cover every major intersection. Take 5 deep breaths and let the sociopathic morons be … you could shoot them, burn them, draw and quarter them in your mind’s eye and by the time you’re done with your fantasy it’s time to move along another car length.
Wow Flicka, that’s the most narrow minded comment about the growth of the area I’ve ever seen you make. So- in your suggested scenario- who is staffing most of the town? And who would be supporting the local economy? Because most of the people living here since then are likely retired- their kids are living off their family’s income from all the rental properties they own, which they won’t be making when you kick out the “non local renters”. I mean- really? Half the people keeping businesses in this town alive through employment and patronage are transplants.
It is DANGEROUS and against CA law to block an intersection. One of the biggest pet peeves I have is that cops don’t ticket the folks who do this almost every day going up and down Carrillo. It’s a fine of up to $285. Pay attention next time to all those “Do NOT Block Intersection” signs. Doing so makes traffic worse for everyone.

Funny. I’ve heard they do it all the time.
This is why I sit in awe of the groovy one. lol
So Flicka you idea would exclude anyone under the age of 47. Not bad we could save tons of money we now spend on schools. Oh snap in a few decades there would be no one left.
Saying everyone who came after 1970 could leave was meant to be a joke. However, it wouldn’t leave only the old. Don’t you think kids would have been born, or brought with folks who came before 1970, and they’d have had children, maybe even grandkids by now. Sure SB is crowded, but it’s beautiful so naturally people want to move here. It’s America, folks can live anywhere they want (if they can afford the prices here).
We have way to many people and still not enough economy…have you seen downtown? You’re just sad because your not included in her awesome plan.
