Source: Caltrans

A project to replace the bridge rails on the US Highway 101 Overcrossing at Olive Mill Road which were damaged during the Montecito flooding this past January will continue with overnight highway closures next week with the installation of wooden support beams underneath the existing bridge.

  • Southbound US Highway 101 will be closed at Olive Mill Road on Sunday, August 26 and Monday, August 27during the overnight hours from 10 pm until 5 am.  Motorists may detour from Olive Mill Road via the Hot Springs Road exit and Coast Village Road.
  • Northbound US Highway 101 will be closed at Olive Mill Road on Tuesday, August 28 and Wednesday, August 29 during the overnight hours from 10 pm until 5 am.  Motorists may detour from Olive Mill Road via Coast Village Road and Hot Springs Road. The No. 2 (right) lane of southbound US Highway 101 will be closed from Olive Mill Road to San Ysidro Road on Wednesday, August 29 from 10 pm until 5 am for tree trimming to increase sight distance for motorists.
  • The southbound US 101 off-ramp at Olive Mill Road will be closed on Tuesday, August 28 from 10 pm until 5 pm.  The southbound US 101 off-ramp at San Ysidro Road will be closed on Wednesday, August 29 from 10 pm until 5 am for tree trimming to increase sight distance for motorists.
  • In addition, motorists will encounter one-way reversing traffic control on the Olive Mill Road Overcrossing on Tuesday, Sept. 4 beginning at 9 pm for re-striping and the installation of  temporary barriers.  One-way traffic on Olive Mill Road in a northerly direction towards Coast Village Road on the mountain side of US 101 will begin the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 5 for a four-month period.
  • Local traffic may detour by exiting northbound US 101 at San Ysidro Road to access coastal areas.  Northbound truck traffic on US 101 is encouraged to use the Milpas Street exit before returning southbound and exiting at Spring Road.
  • Residents who live along Danielson Lane will maintain parking in their neighborhood, but parking will be prohibited near the narrow corners to allow residents and large construction    vehicles to safely navigate this area.  Motorists and cyclists are encouraged to Share the Road.  Caltrans will move at an accelerated pace with construction taking place Monday through Friday from 7 am until 5 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am until 4 pm.

The contractor for this $1.2 million project is Granite Construction of Santa Barbara, CA.  This project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, weather permitting. This project will result in a safe highway overcrossing following the Montecito debris flow earlier this year.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
