On 09/23/2018, Officers with the Santa Maria Police Department were made aware of a threat posted on social media towards Pioneer Valley High School. Several officers immediately began an investigation and determined the threat was made about two weeks ago.
Officers were able to identify the suspect as a juvenile male who is a Santa Maria resident. Contact was made with the juvenile who admitted to posting the threat to social media. The juvenile was arrested and charged with Criminal Threats and booked into the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall. The threat to student safety was determined to be unsubstantiated.
SMPD Officers worked closely with School Resource Officers and both High School Administrations to ensure all procedures were followed. At this time, there is no threat to student safety.
Due to the suspect’s age, the name or other identifying information will not be released.
