Man Arrested for Threatening to “Shoot Up” Convalescent Home

On Thursday, October 18, at about 3:47 PM, SMPD responded to a convalescent home in the Santa Maria city limits to a threats report. Employees reported that 56 year old Nipomo resident, Robert Clement, called and yelled profanities over more than one call before threatening to go to the business and “shoot up the place.” Clement was angry over his perceived lack of care for his elderly mother by staff. The victim immediately called 911 out of fear that Clement would follow through. Clement did in fact have firearms registered to him.

Officers obtained search and arrest warrants for Clement, who lives in Nipomo in a trailer on his brother’s property. With assistance from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department, SMPD officers conducted a tactical arrest operation and took Clement into custody without incident. Several firearms were collected and booked into evidence, and Clement was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

  1. It’s all about how rich you are. Can you afford in-home care? Or will you pay out everything to assist yourself and still be alive? Then you’ll be warehoused. Yes, there are good places. But they cost. Thank goodness my parents were able to avoid it. I intend to check out before I get to that state. You all realize the other demographic shift, not the brown one? Our state’s and nation’s aging!
