With all the rain and sunshine lately, we can expect wildflowers to explode in the surrounding hillsides, especially Figueroa Mountain.
A few edhat readers have reached out to ask about the status of wildflowers and we decided to reach out to a qualified source who has been updating the community on flower statuses for many years.
Helen Tarbet of the Los Padres National Forest Service answered our question on Wednesday about the status of Figueroa Mountain wildflowers.
“This year is actually a normal year for the wildflowers. It has been rainy, cold, snowy and icy and the flowers during a normal year (meaning with lots of much-needed rain) get started later. In fact, there is even a section up on Fig that the road is still closed due to black ice,” said Tarbet to edhat.
Tarbet went on to state she just returned from Figueroa Mountain and found there were plenty of plants, but not flowers yet. “On Vista Point, the chocolate lilies are out and lupine and a few poppies are starting on the famous poppy hillside, but not enough to write about,” she said.
Within the next week, she hopes there will be more flowers to send out a public update.
While the sun is now out and shining, the wildflowers need a little more time before Figueroa Mountain turns a lovely shade of orange.
