Great… Amgen. Just more encouragement for our local spandex warriors to play “bike racer” and blow through stop lights while riding in packs 2-4 abreast….
It was all over the news this week that the bike race was coming through town mid-day today. All roads were back open before commute time. Live a little!
Do the people playing ‘bike racer’ really impact you that much? Sure a bit – less than everyone else on the cell phones. At least they’re out getting a nice workout in our wonderful weather and landscape.
THOMAS JOHN – yes they do. When they blast through intersections without slowing down, they jeopardize the safety of myself, my passengers (ie, my children) and the other motorists/pedestrians in the intersection. When they ride in wide groups, swerving in and out of their bike lanes, they cause cars to have to slam on their brakes or swerve into the oncoming lane of traffic to avoid them. Being selfish on the road (be it on a bike or car) puts everyone else at risk. So yeah, the wannabe Lance Armstrongs (especially on Cathedral Oaks) do impact me and everyone else around them.
I find most of the bikers in town riding in a respectful fashion. Yes, many do roll stops – but typically you got on a bike you’d probably do that too. Wide groups – sure, they’re out on a group ride, share the road a bit. It slows you down, what a minute or two? Relax, take a breath, they’re just out getting a social work out in….
It’s amusing that whenever there’s any Edhat news posted that involves a bicycle, it brings out posters who complain about their automobile driving experience and how some bicyclist didn’t follow the rules. Yet, whenever there’s an auto or truck accident, bicyclists don’t post about how some other random driver violated their ride. And no, the conclusion that Edhat readers are not cyclists would be wrong.
