I have been thinking of low-cost ways for you to secure your homes lately. With Google there are a lot of options out there, I googled and found some inexpensive ways to theft-proof your home. Family Handyman has some great ideas for those of you who are handy with tools. Safewise has an article: 20 Top Security products under Twenty Dollars. Safety.com also has some good ideas.

In the Old Days when I was young I made homemade booby traps to deter people from breaking into the old Homestead and I almost found myself in hot water for it. One poor feller lost part of his finger breaking into one of my places though those booby traps are illegal and can get you sued, no one broke into my place as long as I lived in Northwest Indiana after that. Nowadays I watch the property on which I live and walk it some, making sure the neighbors’ houses are clear when they are at work. We kinda watch out for each other here.

If you can afford a few hundred dollars there is Simpli Safe, you can furnish your home or business with an alarm and pay a few dollars each month for it to be monitored. I think the best alarms are the video alarm when the alarm goes off you can see the video on your iPhone inside your home and see the geniuses hard at work ripping you off yourselves. Then you can call the police and if the thieves are not professionals usually they get caught, sometimes pro’s get greedy and get caught anyway like the fella that got caught the other morning in the 200 Block of South Milpas while I was still busy sawing logs at five in the morning, I heard about it though. If you leave your home for a second just to take out the trash, lock your door, that quick you can get ripped off. I lock my door walking to the trash 50 feet or so and back because one time I went across the street for 5 minutes left my door open came back to find my door locked and someone barricaded behind it. It took along time to get that guy out of my little house I don’t take any chances anymore, it’s not worth it.

Getting to be Summertime though it doesn’t feel like it, there are a lot of thieving scumbags out there another thing to watch is your murses, and purses in grocery stores leave them unattended even for a second you might lose them. Sometimes when I’m in Trader Joes I’ll stop next to a cart with an unattended purse and wait for the person to come back before I move on. I have been ripped off before and I don’t like seeing others get ripped off. The harder you make it for a thief the more likely they will just move on to an easier hit. You don’t want to get ripped off and they don’t want to get caught…THAT’S MY MILPAS UNDERPANTIES AND I’M STICKING TO THEM!  Here are your scanner reports.

• 211  Silent Alarm SBCC 721 Cliff Drive no robbery they received a threatening phone call from someone who wasn’t hired for a job. That is no way to get a job

• 100 Block of West Haley Female transient possibly involved in illegal activity, possibly
• Shoplifting case REI 300 Block of Anacapa.
• 100 Block of West Carrillo 20002 Non injury Hit and Run.- 920 North Ventura Road Dumpster on fire next to a structure
• Bicycle accident Fairview overpass Traumatic injury
• Child left in a vehicle in Parking Lot 10, Vehicle is a white BMW. The reporting party stated they confronted the mother about leaving the child in the vehicle before in another parking lot and she said she only does it when she is at work near by.
• Med call leg pain intoxicated male Crown Liquor 2 North Milpas
• Fire Alarms ringing at PATH 816 Cacique, no fire.
• Wallet turned in at the Lobby Door SBPD 215 East Figueroa
• 415 Domestic struggle heard 400 Block of East Cota SBPD got there occupants refused to open the door manager provided key I think someone went to jail but not a hundred percent sure because of crossed calls.
• Bicyclist Down 300 Block of West Mountain Drive unknown circumstances, or condition of victim.
• 242 Assault at 7-11   331 West Montecito.
• 242 Assault at PATH 816 Cacique.

• Residential fire alarm 1300 Block of Oak Creek Road, no problems.
• Man down and bloody 600 Block of South Broadway in Santa Maria.
• Probation Officer looking for a Subject in Oak Park.
• Crime Scene Investigation at the 76 Station 200 Block of South Milpas not sure why?
• Drinker in the 800 Block of Reddick street, there are some squatters in a vacant house in that block.
• Missing at Risk female a regular this woman walks so fast and disappears so quick she keeps our Police Department in shape she should be hired as a trainer. They found her on West Carrillo
• Overdose at Carl’s 7 South Milpas street.
• Missing at Risk female that disappeared this morning and was found is on the run again this afternoon
• SBPD premises check 700 Block of Lawrence.
• Male yelling at CVS in the 2900 Block of State street and Throwing up
• Suicidal female sending text messages somewhere in Carpinteria a juvenile
• City lot 10  600 Block of Anacapa premises check.
• Keep the Peace while the ex boy friend picks up property 700 Block of East Valerio
• Nopolitos and Carpinteria Avenue in Santa Barbara on a Homeless Camp.
• Check the Welfare of a male locked in a bathroom for an hour at 533 State street he’s probably reading Edhat on his I Phone.
• Possible H&S Drug sales in the 300 Block of East Anapamu.
• 20002 Non injury hit and run Trader Joes Parking Lot 3025 DLV
• Injury traffic accident 1200 Block of Alta Vista that can be a dangerous street too.
• SBPD on a group at Dwight Murphy.
• Med Call the person passed on Rest in Peace, East Side.
• Premises check Los Patos at the rail road tracks.

The Missing at Risk female returned home on her own. While she walks pretty fast she seems to walk to the same places pretty much. I think we have a wonderful Police Department that they respond to these missing at Risk calls putting non emergency calls aside until they find the person they are looking for. BRAVO SBPD!   Update on 200 South Milpas the panhandlers still come around but the Police have been coming around too one of the offenders was caught mid squat on the property taking a Dump and signed a piece of paper agreeing to not  trespass on the property again or he will go to jail.
