Is anyone else “enjoying” the very loud airplane with huge banner constantly buzzing our tranquil Santa Barbara the past few days? Is there a way to curb this? It buzzed by our home about 5-6 times just today.

They do make a pill for that…
It is tacky and annoying. The Chumash seem to pull out this crap every holiday weekend or during big events. As if they need more advertising and HWY 154 needs more traffic.
Loud Airplane? I haven’t heard anything all day.
I think “Santa Barbara” is a bit of a general location.
I’m near Cottage Hospital and it has been very quiet.
I’d ‘enjoy’ it but I didn’t hear it. -Noleta
It flew right over Cottage at around 4:00 and was loud enough that I went outside to see what it was and it was the banner puller. It is noisy since it’s a small plane pulling a load slowly and kind of drones like the blimps.
I used to have empathy for the Chumash until this plane first showed up during Carp Rods and Roses, and subsequently has buzzed my neighborhood seemingly every weekend. No more.
I like it
I hope you can remember that this is the federally recognized group of Chumash in Santa Ynez that hires this plane to fly over us. All Chumash are not the Santa Ynez Band. There are other Chumash groups (Barbareno, Ventureno, Obispeno) that have nothing to do with this airplane advertising.
Chumash Casino has been polluting the air with this noisy plane and ugly banner, starting many many months ago. I do only see it occasionally. As earlier commenter stated, perhaps this obnoxious banner it is only dragged across our skies during special events/holidays. I hate noise pollution. Chumash Casino knock it off.
I have read in previous news articles that a well placed drone toy can divert air traffic over an area – just saying…
And get you well deserved federal criminal charges to boot!
Everybody who dislikes this need to call or email Kenny Khan at the rez and complain. I can’t stand this darn plane above trying to get us to all go to the casino & toss our hard earned money away. Heck, I can put it all in a few bottles, toss them into the ocean and make somebody’s day when they find them.
My 380 auto fits nicely in my purse , thank you kindly 🙂
Some things seem inconsistent to me about the SY Chumash. I’ve heard they claim to be stewards of the land, yet they contribute to air/noise pollution with this obnoxious flying banner mode of advertising (that annoys 90,000 Santa Barbara residents) and they want to build on undeveloped land at Camp 4. I think they’ve gotten greedy and lost sight of their desire to be good neighbors, stewards of the environment and to respect and honor their history.
So instead of whining here, why not take your complaint directly to the SY Chumash? They have the ability to change it. Whether they will heed to public pressure, who knows?
I enjoy it. Reminds me of summertime fun in the sun. It’s a brief moment, and people look up from what they’re doing. Planes with banners are flying along beaches all over the country in the summertime just as they’ve been doing for many years. Even though I have no intention of going to the casino, I smile as they fly by. Ah, summer.
Leaf blowers in the sky.
People in Goleta have dealt with the jet noise for decades. Deal with it.
The wonderful thing about living in a free country is you get to choose to ignore your neighbours or impose your will on them to do what you want. It’s all about YOU and what you want. Ain’t it grand? We’ve had 3 mass shootings in a little over a week we can’t do anything to curb because of ‘Murincan’s love affair with guns but let’s focus on those airplanes and helicopters in the sky, by golly.
There have been planes dragging banners as long as I can remember. It used to be fun when they did the sky writing to advertise. Often, “have a coke.” So, the Chumash want to build on “undeveloped land in Camp 4.” Most development takes place on undeveloped land. Goleta didn’t just grow all those housing tracts and condos on undeveloped land, they were built by developers.
“gotten greedy?” Like it only happened recently? Damn them and their attempts to cover SY Valley with concrete.
Why would you want to litter our ocean with bottles?
Would it make you happy if we just stopped flights over Santa Barbara in general?
