Update by the Santa Barbara City Fire Department
Santa Barbara City Firefighters were dispatched to a gas main break in the 200 block of Cottage Grove Avenue Monday morning at approximately 10:49 am. The response included three engine companies, one truck company and a Battalion Chief. The first on scene report confirmed a Two-inch gas main was broken and leaking. The entire block of Cottage Grove Avenue was shut down to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. At least 15 residents were evacuated. The remaining residents were asked to shelter in place and stay in their homes.
Santa Barbara Police assisted with traffic control and The Southern California Gas Company responded to mitigate the gas leak. The roads in the immediate area are affected by emergency vehicles however should be cleared within 90 minutes. No injuries were reported at this time.

The 400 block of De La Vina is closed near Cottage Grove, officials on scene say it’s a gas leak. Stay away from the area.
About a month ago a similar problem arose on Manitou Road. Looks like the gas mains are breaking down just as the water lines are doing. We need infrastructure pro active maintenance. Money spent on this would be a whole lot healthier for all than the money we spend on F15s and naval task forces and regime change in third world countries.
