Delta Airline’s direct service to Salt Lake City from Santa Barbara’s airport is now in effect.
City officials and airline representatives welcomed the arrival of the first Delta Air Lines flight from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) on Monday.
Delta Air Lines is making a bold commitment to the Santa Barbara region with three daily nonstop flights to Salt Lake City. Their 76-seat Embraer 175 aircraft will connect Santa Barbara in less than two hours to a world-class hub with flights to more than 90 domestic and international destinations in the world’s largest airline network.
The Santa Barbara Fire Department used a water cannon to salute the first flight around 12:15 p.m. Flight passengers received gift bags and refreshments after stepping foot in Santa Barbara’s airport.
Currently Santa Barbara Airport offers nonstop flights to the following destinations: Dallas (American Airlines), Denver (United Airlines and Frontier Airlines), Las Vegas (Contour Airlines), Los Angeles (United Airlines), Minneapolis (Sun Country Airlines), Oakland (Contour Airlines), Phoenix (American Airlines), Portland (Alaska Airlines), San Francisco (United Airlines), Seattle (Alaska Airlines).

I’ve only stopped in SLC a couple times while driving through. I may take advantage of this for a long weekend exploration trip.
Trips east of the Mississippi starting here have at least one stop. SLC is more trouble-free than LAX or SFO and wintertime MSP, less out-of-the-way than the other possibilities. Doubt this makes UA (Usually Awful) airline happy–unless they’ve worked out a deal w/Delta.
