Ugh!! That’s pretty early in the morning, wondering if it was another suicide or another overdose. Although I feel like overdose is a lot like suicide since it’s from actively choosing to harm oneself. I know, speculation is bad, and it could be a whole variety of other things that happened… Just the other 2 are so common, and I think about the young woman who hung herself from the kid’s world play structure last month. We didn’t hear any follow up from that from local media but my impression was that it was too late to revive her.
So you’re convinced addiction is a choice?
Not A-1568018504 here, but yes, I think addiction is the result of choice. Of course. No-one forces addicts to start using drugs or alcohol. And some people clearly have a genetic predisposition toward becoming completely addicted. But it was their choice in the first place to take that first drink or pop that first pill or whatever. And they then chose to continue using drugs or alcohol. It’s not like there’s not plenty of information out there, telling them these things are bad. That using drugs and/or drinking alcohol are bad, bad, bad for you. They could have chosen not to “enhance” their lives with toxic substances. It’s not like there aren’t programs to help, if one chooses to stop. Unfortunately, after choosing to continue use, the brain becomes steeped in mind-altering toxins. Then, on and on into the downward spiral, dependency, waste of life. But addiction starts with that first bad choice and then the choice to continue killing one’s brain.
