On September 10, 2019, at approximately 1:24 PM, a minor injury traffic collision occurred on SR-154 east of San Marcos Road. A Ford sedan, driven by a 79 year old male from Woodland Hills, was traveling eastbound on SR-154 east of the San Marcos Road. The Ford veered to the right, struck a drainage culvert, and became disabled within the dirt shoulder. Post collision, the vehicles engine compartment caught on fire. Witnesses on scene deployed fire extinguishers and assisted the elderly couple out of the vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, US Forest Service and American Medical Response, responded to the collision scene. The elderly couple was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by AMR with minor injuries.
The circumstances of the collision are currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. SR-154 eastbound was closed for approximately thirty minutes and traffic alternated using the westbound lane. Drug or alcohol were not suspected as a contributing factor to this collision.
A vehicle collision caused one vehicle to rollover and catch fire which sparked surrounding vegetation which is now on fire. This happened on Highway 154 at San Marcos Road.
