Santa Barbara City Firefighters performed a cliff side rescue this evening. A 16 year old male attempted to gain access to the beach at the end of Oliver Road and Edgewater Way. Firefighters set up a rope system and sent a firefighter rescuer over the side. The rescuer made contact with the patient and determined he was not injured. The patient and rescuer were raised back to the top of the cliff.
The Santa Barbara City Fire Department is on duty and ready for any and all types of emergencies at all times.

Cliff rescue at Oliver Road at Edgewater Way. Santa Barbara City Fire Department is responding.
About the past five years or so I’ve noticed more and more “kids” (a lot of them look old enough to know better) jumping the fence at Shoreline Park. They think it’s cool to hang out on the cliffs above the beach, on the wrong side of the fence. This behavior takes place even after a rain, which seems appallingly stupid. Is that what this 16-year-old was doing? Sitting on the cliff edge up on The Mesa with his buddies, smoking Buddha and/or drinking alcohol and being “cool?”
