Today, Jan 7, is a permissive burn day in all four zones of Santa Barbara County. SBC has received multiple calls this morning regarding the smoke from one of the burns that is visible in the Goleta Valley.

I could see that there was a fire in Goleta area from my drive over 154 this morning but can’t find any news about it. Any information?
Also smoke seen in Carpinteria.
Far too permissive in my opinion
You know that big ag gets whatever they want. They want to burn, they’re going to burn. They want to use toxic pesticides and herbicides, spray baby spray. Free water from the State Water Project. And when you try to apply reasonable restrictions on their activities, they play the oppressed small farmer card, even though many of them are major corporations. Not Ma and Pa Kettle.

Disgusting display of disregard for our clean air and our health.
The ranches in the foothills that are conducting these burns are a critical buffer between the hazard of the forest land in the mountains and our communities. These burns help maintain that critical buffer and will ultimately help protect your home during the next wildfire.
Right. Save the complaining for the out of control wildfires that permitted fires like these are attempting to prevent. A little smoke now is way better than a lot of smoke (and loss of property, homes, lives) this summer.
How so?
All these people complaining about Ag burns, are no doubt (Pitmix) the same people who have no issues inhaling pot and the tar that is in the smoke into there special lungs….

CHIP OF SB. Such a load of horse puckey. There’s no way to justify subjecting every living thing for miles and miles around to this type of pollution. And, in case you weren’t aware, just because you can’t smell it doesn’t mean you aren’t breathing it in.
I’m guessing Christmas tree burns for all of the locals that couldn’t get to the Solvang conflagration? And I would be wrong.
They announce when they are doing DUI checkpoints so why can’t they announce when they are doing controlled burns when we live in an area where people are overly anxious about seeing smoke/fires?

I don’t normally get headaches from smoke, but smells like they are burning more than just brush/wood imo. I sure hope the are not burning trash/plastic/poison oak…. There should be a mandatory inspection of the burn materials prior to the burn.
Yesterday was one of the clearest, most beautiful days here. Now this. I don’t get it. Why allow this type of air pollution?

SACJON. When our neighbors used their fireplace, we couldn’t be outside in our front or back yards or even sit on our front porch. We couldn’t hang our laundry, because then it would smell like smoke. Many times, we put out laundry and then the neighbors would start burning and so we would have to rewash and rehang our laundry the next day. We couldn’t sleep at night because of the smoke. We had to leave our house many times and just wait it out. Our living room furniture and drapes smelled of wood smoke from our neighbors’ fireplace. Our window sills and screens were thick with soot. Air filters typically only screen particles down to 3 microns in size. Wood smoke is 2.5 microns. If LUVADUCK states that his/her patio is covered in soot from neighbors burning, then believe it.

Personally most of what I ate today came from the farmer’s market, so small local organic growers. How many of them are burning stuff today? Not very many, I would guess.
My patio is covered with soot and I cannot open my windows during cool nights most of the winter b/c those around me like to look at “real” fires, most of which don’t really heat their homes. I don’t know what the actual percentages are, but unless they have fireplace inserts, most of the heat goes up the chimney.
