On February 7, 2020, at 1:19 am, officers were dispatched to an injury traffic collision on Stowell Road between Hanson Way and Blosser Road.
Officers arrived to find two vehicles involved with one driver deceased and the other suffering from minor injuries.
The SMPD Traffic Bureau assumed responsibility for the investigation and arrested Michael Lee, 25 yro, Santa Maria. Lee was booked for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated and Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence Causing Injury.
It appears alcohol and speed were a factor with both drivers. The investigation by the Traffic Bureau is ongoing. The identity of the deceased will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit assisted the Traffic Bureau with documenting the scene.
