Katcho Achadjian, the former State Assemblymember representing San Luis Obispo, has died at age 68.
Achadjian, who served the Central Coast for three terms, died Thursday due to health complications, reports KSBY. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
Born in Lebanon to Armenian parents, his family immigrated to the United States in 1971. He became a citizen in 1982.
After attending local colleges, Achadjian purchased a small business that he expanded throughout the San Luis Obispo (SLO) County.
He was elected to the SLO Board of Supervisors in 1998 and served until elected to the State Assembly in 2010.
“Very saddened to hear about Katcho’s passing. A good man and a pillar in our community, he believed in the common good and worked to transcend partisanship. Katcho taught us to always strive for what’s best for our communities, and he delivered results,” posted Representative Salud Carbajal on Twitter.
“The Achadjian family is thankful for your support and sympathy. The outpouring of calls, messages, and prayers is a true testament and reminder of how many lives Katcho touched. At this time, the family appreciates privacy as they mourn the loss of a remarkable husband, father, and public servant,” the Achadjian family said in a statement.
