Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital’s infectious disease specialist Dr. Lynn Fitzgibbons shared information on the novel-coronavirus (COVID-19).
Dr. Fitzgibbons shared a one-hour lecture on the COVID-19 pandemic, described how local medical professionals should prepare, and how it might occur in Santa Barbara.

Great talk. Props to Edhat for posting full vid. What strikes one at the commencement of the lecture and the impressive dashboard is the alarming infectivity with which this rna virus has prevailed over much of the globe. Considering the extreme quarantines, exceeding all precedent, and massive shutdown of air travel, the velocity is stunning. As China and other places lift the stiff controls, the million dollar question is whether the new case rate will rebound or stabilize. It is difficult to distinguish between the official reports of stabilization and the widespread contention that the China taper is “fake”. Note also that she attributes an overall mortality rate of 3% as opposed to the 1-2% we hear so much of. This lecture is a “must” I will refer my contacts to view it.
Mr/Mrs/Ms 10:02 am: I read the article, too. Let’s get a little political bashing of Andy in here for someone who is trying to elicit calm and rational thought unlike so many other politicians and media sources, shall we? He said nothing in his post that was untrue. We don’t need cynical and hypocritical political snipes using COVID-19 as a platform for people voicing their opinions right now, and I’m not sure why people, politicians or otherwise, that promote NOT panicking, or getting caught up in the hysteria so far, should be criticized while others buy into the fear.

I would like to see a better control over transmission by businesses and other sectors. For example, if you go to Costco, you will see through the window that none of the people preparing food are wearing masks. They are breathing 1 foot ABOVE the food they are preparing. I asked the manager about it and he said they are following CDC guidelines. CDC guidelines are 6 ft. In fact, I haven’t seen a 6ft distance between people in any business or lines I have seen yet. I see students at UCSB hugging and partying and sharing phones for selfies. Most business I go to do not have sanitizer, where you must touch the credit card machine and the shopping cart. At my work at UCSB, maintenance staff are still coming to the building, 3 in a small truck, and touching public surfaces without sanitizing before and after. Despite all the public awareness, it seems Santa Barbara residents and business are lagging behind in changing behavior. Perhaps some stronger guidelines from city and county officials are needed.
The North County woke up to read an editorial by Andy Caldwell about the cornonavirus. Since coming in second by scads, Andy must have gone to medical school as he is now giving us all advice. According to “Dr.” Caldwell, we all need to chill. I urge all voters to read this…….to see how irresponsible he is during a time when we should be hearing from medical experts, not snarky wanna be politicians.
Maybe Andy should take a morning off from his medical research to remove all his illegally placed political signs that still line our roadways. He even has one on a school campus. Not allowed, Dr. Caldwell! And time for the ‘doc’ to tell his few followers to take down their lawn signs.
Human nature in combination with zero leadership.
Hysteria? Maybe you should view the linked video before making such a claim. Mr. Caldwell has a knack for listing a bunch of facts that may be true in themselves but nevertheless ignore the larger truth right in front of him. No one in this conversation is using a political platform but him.
