Today, the City of Santa Barbara Public Safety Departments, Police and Fire, were notified of a public safety professional who tested positive for COVID-19.
The public safety professional, City of Santa Barbara Police Officer #1, last worked on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
The Officer is quarantined and recovering out-of-county, at their personal residence.
The City of Santa Barbara Public Safety Departments began extensive COVID-19 mitigation measures starting in early March. As such, Officer #1 was already isolated at home when they began to feel sick.
Extensive cleaning, social distancing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), are being practiced at both the Fire Department and Police Department.
In addition to Police Officer #1, two other Police Officers were tested; Police Officer #2 tested negative and Police Officer #3’s testing results are still pending.
No City of Santa Barbara Fire Fighters have required testing at this point-in-time.
The City of Santa Barbara Police and Fire Departments are working in conjunction — on a continuing bases with the County Public Health Department — to provide the most up-to-date workplace safety standards.
sorry to be a tattle tale but there was an incident today at the skate park and I witnessed a group of SBPD officers talking to each other in very close proximity. My friend commented that they were not practicing social distancing… Whatever the incident was seemed to have already wrapped up and they appeared to be just chatting, In a group, with less than 2 feet of space between each of them.
Did you go up to them and ask them why they weren’t six feet apart? If not, then why post here?
