Saturday morning, walking my dog along Chase Palm Park, I saw mounds of sand and a Corps of Army Engineers sign lying on the ground; the bike path was blocked off by two trucks, with rental signs on them- I didn’t note what they were, except they were not City of SB trucks. Further down, more or less opposite Calle Vallarta, there was a backhoe at work and three men standing around.
I asked politely what the trench was for? And I got a response from the old one in the center to get off the beach (I was on the ice box plant) and that “(I) should be at home!” I was so startled by his rudeness that all I said was, No, I shouldn’t be at home, that I was walking my (very visible) dog.
Anyway, there was no answer to the question about the trench. I don’t think these were City of SB employees, Waterfront or Parks; there was no sign of a Coastal Commission permit which must be obtained. No dredging was going on at the harbor. Anyone have a guess about the trench?

1. This is such a scam, they do this every year when they could easily and simply install a permanent pipe where they install this temporary one.
2. That old guy on the right is one big ignoramus. I was taking photos of them walking all over tie ice plant 3 years ago and he ran after me screaming obscenities and threatening me.

I guess you could have reported them for violating the 6 ft rule? Why do people breaking rules seem concerned about other people breaking rules?
