Santa Barbara County firefighters have rescued a fawn on Thursday from the Hollister Ranch brush fire.

A hand crew rescued the fawn and immediately began caring for the animal. A local wildlife care rescue was contacted where the fawn has been transferred for further care.

The brush fire began around 2:15 a.m. and quickly grew to 200 acres. It’s currently 10% contained with over 100 firefighters on the scene.

An evacuation warning has been issued for homes in the Hollister Ranch area. More information on the fire can be found here.

  1. 12:42 – Are you one of those anti-rescue people? Complaining that they get paid too much and then nitpicking everything they do online? I bet they’d LOVE to know your address so they can stay seated next time they get a call to help you out. It hurts my head and heart knowing our community shares it’s resources with and is encumbered by people with this type of thinking. It’s like waking up every morning with vinegar in your cereal, isn’t it?

  2. WOW 12:42 Do you hate much and often? Those guys are risking their lives to keep our community safe. Like SACJON said, it makes my head and heart hurt, knowing there are such Hate Filled people in our town. You live in Paradise so try to be grateful or go spread your hate on Facebook like everybody else.

  3. Best to let nature take it’s course, it’s mother is probably looking frantically for her fawn as the Fire Department is getting photo opportunities for PR benefit. This is disgusting but wait for all the praise they’ll get for “saving” the fawn from it’s home. This must also mean that the fire is out if they are taking photos.

  4. A firefighter told me that sometimes animals, including small ones, will catch fire and run down the hill starting new spot fires. Best to save them, if possible, and avert a wider spread of a wildfire. And, then there’s also the compassion and human kindness thing…
