Santa Barbara County firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire that was spreading into the brush on Highway 154 Wednesday evening.
At 6:18 p.m., fire crews arrived on scene by San Antonio Road near the Windy Gap area and found a vehicle fully involved in fire with minor extension into the surrounding vegetation.
All occupants were outside of the vehicle and uninjured.
Firefighters immediately suppressed and contained preventing further spread into the brush.
There were traffic restrictions in the area that have since been lifted. California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
How did this vehicle catch on fire? Was there an accident or did it spontaneously combust?
Sometimes vehicles’ wiring or fuel system goes haywire. A friend of mine once had his VW Bug’s engine catch on fire. Without thinking, he doused it with the liquid he had on hand—–a big cup of Coca-Cola. He said it made things a sticky mess. Probably not the best “solution,” but it did put out the fire.
