The California Department of Fish and Wildlife continues to search for a mountain lion spotted near Dwight Murphy Park and East Beach.
There have been several sightings on Saturday and Sunday but the latest was reported (below) by Roger the Scanner Guy. A newspaper delivery person reportedly saw the cougar on Por la Mar near the El Escorial Villas. On Saturday it was reportedly seen by the softball field at Dwight Murphy park and the Hyatt hotel.
Any further information will be reported as soon as it’s available.

The police have a perimeter set up at Por La Mar for a mountain lion I think a paperboy came face to face with it
My husband is the Newspaper Carrier for Por La Mar. Saturday morning we were not allowed entrance to deliver the papers until after 9am. We get there every night between 3am – 4am. The Security Guard on duty got a picture of it. I respectfully drive slowly through the complex, you never know what may be out there. We see foxes, rabbits, cats on a regular basis. Sunday morning the Guard told us to enter at our own risk & to keep an eye in the trees. My husband saw it at the West end of the pool area. It was sitting on a wall just staring at him. He rushed back into the 100 building till they escorted him out. So people, please be safe & very aware of your surroundings. Also, please have patience, you will get your paper 😉
Headed to the beach. Sunday morning with the city a ghost town. Nice. Hope it gets a feed in the creek and heads back up.
I’m only hearing a little bit here and there so you all know where not to go jogging this morning.
“Paper boy” brings to mind a kinder, gentler time when morning papers were delivered by teen and pre-teens on bicycles not grown men speeding in their automobiles.
Probably came down Sycamore Creek. I hope they got pics.
On Saturday morning at 4:50 AM, I received a reverse 911 call from the SBPD warning of a mountain lion in area of Dwight Murphy field. Must be the same cat.
If you saw a mountain lion coming at you would you rather be on a bicycle or in a fast car?
I got that call too about a week or so before that my cat came flying in the house scared shitless peeing all over the place. Like father like son…I thought there was something big out there but did not see anything at the time.
Years ago I was driving early morning on a mountain road. rounding a slow curve, appearing in the not so far distance, a mountain lion sunning itself in a sunny patch of the road. I hit the brakes and locked the doors (?!). It looked casually looked at me, stood up, yawned and stretched – exactly like a house cat – then sauntered off the road. Way before phones with cameras etc.. Beautiful.
