New Parking Limits Near Montecito Beaches

By John Palminteri of KEYT News

After several weeks of complaints from area residents, the Montecito beaches and hiking trails will have new parking limits.

The action came from the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, following an outcry from residents who have been snarled by cars and people even during the “stay well at home” order by Governor Gavin Newsom.

There’s also been a complaint about excessive trash and disregard for environmental care.

Two-hour parking limits are in effect at Hot Springs Trailhead, Riven Rock Road, and on Humphrey Road and Miramar Avenue where they cross Eucalyptus through Memorial Day.

  1. Sounds to me like this is a case of rich Montecito residents taking advantage of COVID-19 to kick out non-residents, who have every right to access public hiking trails. Shame on them, and shame on the local authorities for pandering to their fascist sense of entitlement.

  2. Wow as a resident of another South Coast district, I am stunned to see the favoritism offered to the residents of Montecito. What about the trails and Beach parking by Tunnel road? Hendry’s? More Mesa? Gaviota? The Board could have applied some triggers that could be applied equally to other areas where congestion and related impacts have been a problem

  3. Those ‘area residents’ should consider moving away from where the citizens of the United States of America choose to gather for recreation. Why endlessly complain? Move on, find a secluded spot for your home, somewhere where the weather is variable and live happily ever after…we need your land for parking our petroleum consuming vehicles and for that one that needs a charge station.

  4. Was at Rincon yesterday, tried Summerland first only to find massive RV’s, 5th Wheels and trailers along the overlook just south of main lot. I/we were appalled. Why isn’t SBSO enforcing? Additionally, cars parked on both sides where ‘no parking’ signs are. No tickets on windshields and as we went in a Sheriff was leaving in his Suburban-in all my years it was the lamest and most packed i’d ever seen. Onto Rincon, when we left, there was some words someone dug into the sand: “Garcetti Free Zone”. I thought to myself this is where I live and I am getting pushed aside for some 909 JERRY in a dually and massive trailer.
