I received this email from the West-Wind Drive In theatre in Goleta titled, “Help us Reopen the Santa Barbara Drive-In:”
“Thanks for all the emails encouraging us to reopen the Santa Barbara Drive-In. We love the idea and want to make it happen, but we need your help!
The Santa Barbara Public Health Department requires all movie theaters, including Drive-in’s, to remain closed during the shelter-in-place orders. Santa Barbara is the only county treating movie theaters and Drive-in’s as the same. In fact, some counties never closed their Drive-in’s because they believe it was a safe activity. Over the last few weeks, the remaining California Drive-In’s have reopened or have been authorized to reopen except for the Santa Barbara Drive-in. Like you, we believe it should be reopened, so that we can provide a safe activity for local residents.
If you would like to help reopen the Drive-In, please send an email to County Supervisor Gregg Hart at ghart@countyofsb.org asking him to allow the Santa Barbara Drive-In to reopen like other California Drive-In’s have been permitted to reopen.

Has there been any interest in purchasing the old drive-in movie theater in Goleta? This would be a perfect time to show movies there again.
Not sure about the condition of the drive-in in general, but I’d think restrooms might be an issue.

Do like the old days of travel in the family car and just take a few cans with lids & you’re good to go. Pun intended

I suggested this in April, you could buy your tickets online, no restroom use. Well you should wear a mask. And limit the amount of people, things we all should be doing. No contact with a person, maybe are cars could be checked by our license plate. Everyone is buying to go food already right.
I do miss the drive in. I can sit in my clean car and bring my own snacks .
And have a night out.
Restrooms: In many places, toliets are coin operated. That cuts down on unnecessary use. Is there such a thing as pay Port-a-potties? That would cover their cost. Or maybe some sort of hand stamp that would allow patrons to leave and come back? Or maybe those unable to “hold it” for an hour and a half would choose to not leave home or wear sanitary supplies. This is a optional activity. Many activities have physical or mental limitations. Michael Jordan couldn’t be a jockey.
Stores, gas stations, restaurants, beaches and parks….everyone has public restrooms to this day. They just have to clean more rigorously. Just wear your mask, and don’t touch anything. Wash your hands. You will be fine.
Personally I avoid public restrooms. But yes, I have recently used restrooms at a grocery store and McDonalds, and the Madonna Inn when I got take out for Mothers Day breakfast. And at the beach, Refugio.
