The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) reports the total COVID-19 cases have reached 1,604 as of Tuesday.

Of the total number, 971 belong to the outbreak in the Federal Penitentiary in Lompoc and 633 community cases. From the community cases, 482 are located in North County with the majority in Santa Maria.

In the community, there are 92 active cases with 69 quarantined at home, 29 in the hospital including 11 in the intensive care unit (ICU), and 33 pending more information.

Additionally, PHD is reporting six cases that are “out of county.” It’s unclear if the cases are local residents that traveled and returned to the area or if these are non-residents that are now quarantined in the local area.

The county is reporting 16,443 COVID-19 tests have been administered. There have been 12 deaths within the county.

  1. The virus is coming for us all. But tourism will fan the flames into a roaring wildfire. Watch out Santa Barbara… The City and County is putting us all in danger with how it is reopening. Avoid State St, stay home and wear your masks!

  2. I couldn’t agree with you more. Opening up for tourists will make our town a “hot spot”. It will benefit a few at the expensive of the many b/c it will prolong the necessity of isolation & masking and making businesses close sporadically. Also, the social isolation is is extremely hard on anyone over 50 or who doesn’t have a family nearby.

  3. JAYKAY – anyone who refuses to wear the mask (for non-medical reasons) is an absolute selfish jerk. There, I poked the nest, what’s going to happen now? Armed militia at my door to take away my First Amendment rights?

  4. Goleta number went up from 7 to 15 in a matter of 2 days! Why won’t people just stay home? Why are we allowing other counties to come to SB? like people from LA or Ventura county? Why can’t we shut down our little safe environment from people who don’t live in the area? Why can’t we seclude beaches to certain areas? For example if you live in Goleta don’t go to Henry’s beach or if you live in SB stay away from Deveraux and Goleta beach and Campus point. Enough is enough. I have been working from home for 11 weeks now and I rarely go out to grocery store, I shop at the closet supermarket or for a walk either really early or late to avoid people, most days I don’t go outside. I miss going to work, I miss my colleagues, they are my only friends and family and until Campus reopens which won’t be for the remainder of the year, I’m alone… loneliness is real and is mentally difficult to cope with at times…. Stay home or stay close to your own area. Stop allowing other counties to invade and infect our residents.

  5. Actually they didn’t…. Goleta numbers Went from 11 to 15 in 4 days. You sound like someone who probably should be hiding in their home in paranoid fear… but please at least try to refrain from posting Fake stats to justify your panic

  6. Ohhhhhh suddenly you’re so worried about those less fortunate or who didn’t save for a rainy day? Go on welfare if you have to, sorry but that’s life it’s tough sometimes especially if you didn’t prepare adequately. Right? Isn’t that why we don’t need welfare b/c everyone should be smart and save up, stand on their own 2 feet economically? Someone’s economic problems due to their lack of planning is not justification for letting others die or get sick.

  8. GOOSEBERRIES I’m sorry to hear what you are experiencing. You are not alone. Please know that, you CAN go outside safely. Just be mindful, wear a mask, stay very far away from any jerk not wearing one in a store [outside you’re safer but still maintain distance especially from non-mask wearers] and just wash your hands. If you take these minimal precautions you will be OK. Don’t let the anxiety cripple you .

  9. Oh my gosh. 15 whole cases reported in Goleta. Time to run for your lives!!! How have people gotten so fearful? It’s both sad and disturbing that the media can affect so many gullible people who believe most of the ridiculous brainwashing and false and/or inaccurate info they have been pumping out.

  10. Opening everything too soon will have consequences. Not smart. Listen to science, wear a mask in public. Sure, go outside, but don’t congregate as if the virus doesn’t exist, it DOES. I don’t want it, do you?
