As the City of Santa Barbara moves to a gradual re-opening based on State and Federal guidelines, the Santa Barbara Police Department is also expanding our limited in-person service model to accommodate the changing environment in the community.
On Wednesday, March 18, 2020 the Santa Barbara Police Department had moved to a “limited in-person” service model in an effort to limit potential person-to-person viral transmission during the current pandemic.
Moving forward, Officers will begin to be dispatched to calls that include both “Emergencies” and “Non-Emergencies” while still keeping interactions safe, which includes minimizing prolonged person to person interactions when possible. Additionally, officers dispatched to calls still have the ability to use discretion in their response techniques to calls for service (phone calls prior to arrival, telephonic reports, etc.) in an effort to practice good social distancing.
The Santa Barbara Police Department will continue to have limited front counter service.
We encourage the public to utilize our online reporting system (https://www.santabarbaraca.gov/gov/depts/police/online/report) when appropriate, which offers the community and our employees a safer method of reporting crimes when in-person contact isn’t necessitated.
