Local songwriter and singer Miriam Dance created a powerful song in memory of the lives taken by police brutality.
The song titled “Rise Up! Tribe Up!” speaks to racism against the Black community in the United States and asks how many more until there is change?
The video shows Dance singing towards the camera with photos of the Black Lives Matter protest in Santa Barbara and throughout the United States. It also shows photos of some of the lives taken including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, and Trayvon Martin.
“This song channels the hurt and anger we are feeling. What is it going to take to stop systemic racism? WE NEED JUSTICE! We need to RISE UP! Listen. Educate. Take Action. TRIBE UP! We’re in this together,” said Dance in a Facebook post.
The music was also created by Santa Barbara resident Brandon Battle. The video was directed by Gabriella Guillen & Calos Guillen for LA CIMA MUSIC.
Beautiful! To Mariam and others who created this, thank you for this simple yet powerful song and video. And thanks, Edhat, for posting this.
