  1. Or, the prefect example of our typical over militarized response to community policing. I did not hear reports of any gunshots or threats to the neighborhood or civil unrest. A domestic assault with a deadly weapon deserves serious police intervention, but does it deserve a response of more than 10 units with military presence, riot gear and assault weapons?

  2. How would you like them to respond to an attempted homocide? It takes additional units due to setting up a perimeter in the event an attempted homocide suspect runs, Crisis Negotiating Personnel etc. Domestic violence calls are the most dangerous calls for police officers to respond to. This suspect already showed an ability to murder. So this response is more than appropriate. Not to mention the detectives that have to investigate this crime to put this criminal behind bars. Tomorrow we could learn the woman doesn’t survive and now it is a homocide.

  3. Research has shown that his type of military theater is more likely to escalate a violent situation. Research has also shown that the study that started the “domestic violence calls are the most dangers calls for police” myth, widely exaggerated the facts. Cops are statistically more likely to commit domestic violence than to be injured responding to it (sad fact to learn). That said, my condolences to this and all victims of domestic violence and I am glad the situation ended without further incident.

  4. This incident started at around 2:30am in the area of Del Mar and Barranca with a man yelling in an apartment and a female transported to Cottage Hospital. Another Reported stated it involved a 415 Domestic an ADW and an attempt Homicide.

  5. That explains the ZOOMING, SUPER SUPER FAST, (flooring it), of several Police vehicles, down my street, (San Andres), full sirens blasting, last night….. well, technically it would be early early morning…. …..Didn’t wake me up, because I was still up…. The sirens stopped before they got to Carrillo street.

  6. I think they should be allowed to have what ever they need to dispatch the problem M-1 Tanks, a few F-16’s for speeders of course why not citizens are allowed to buy military weapons why not the police? Some people are against the police having what they need until they need help and call the coppers yelling “Save me!”

  7. I fail to see the parallel between an ambush shooting of an LEO by an active duty US Military Police Sergeant. If anything, that example of cop on cop violence, and bad actors (cops) fueling violence at peaceful protests, only demonstrates the culture of deadly force that we should be looking to reform.

  8. Soapbox is 100% correct. WHY are people here so blind to the data, facts and research about over militarized police? The response with all the armory and military grade weaponry is over the top. We need to demiitarize them. I’m sorry, but conflict resolution does NOT require a military unit, which is exactly what these cops are trying to be. The cops are civil servants, hired and paid for by US to keep the peace. Look at that photo! I count 19 heavily armed men, a tactical trailer, and just out of the photo lens there is probably fire trucks and more. HOW much does this cost us taxpayers? And before you start with the “who is going to keep us safe?” argument, we do NOT need 20 men to calm one man down, even if that man is armed. Ugh. SO sick of police overkill.

  9. NO, it does NOT warrant a response of more than ten militarized units. It’s an outrageous waste of taxpayer dollars. It’s insanity. Look at all the weaponry these men come with. It doesn’t take that many heavily armed cops to take down a subject, even a violent one. This is too much. It’s been too much for a long time. We need police reform now. They are NOT military. They are civil servants, hired and paid for by US to keep the peace. They don’t need all the high tech toys they are getting. STOP it. People are really waking up to what is happening.
