The suspect in this officer involved shooting continues to receive treatment at an area hospital for a non-life threatening injury. The suspect’s name continues to be withheld pending further investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. The officer involved in this shooting has been identified as Officer Ethan Brown, a 2.5 year veteran of the Santa Maria Police Department.
On 6/21/20 at approximately 1257 hours the Santa Maria Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a man waving a gun in front of numerous community members at Boomers Miniature Golf Arcade, located at 2250 North Preisker. SMPD Officers were dispatched to the call for service. At the time of the call, the business was occupied, and employees ushered people inside, where they secured the doors and sheltered in place.
SMPD Officers arrived shortly after receiving the call, and observed the suspect near the intersection of Broadway and Preisker. The suspect was found to be in possession of a handgun. One SMPD Officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. SMPD Officers rapidly engaged in lifesaving efforts to treat the suspect for his injuries. The suspect was transported by medical personnel to a nearby hospital where his condition is unknown.
I hope the officer will be alright. It must be a rough time for a policeman to do his duty and not suffer from anxiety over second-guessing, and I, for one, am thankful for all the “good apples”.
Until ALL cops stand up against police brutality and the “brotherhood” of above ground police crime, there ARE no “good apples”.
