Update by Santa Barbara Police Department

On August 4, 2020, at approximately 6:37 P.M., the Santa Barbara Police Department was dispatched to the 1300 Block of Castillo Street on a report of a subject with a gun. Witnesses advised that a female suspect was walking in the street with a firearm. Additionally, witnesses reported that the female was at the door of a residence banging on the door with the weapon itself.

Numerous Officers responded and saturate the area. The female subject, now identified as 45-year-old Mona Chacha Cordero, of Santa Barbara, was holding a purse. Officers ordered her to drop the item while Officers held her at gun-point.

Cordero complied and was taken into custody without incident. A loaded Ruger P-90, 45 ACP semi-automatic handgun was the top item in the purse. There was a round in the chamber and two additional rounds in the magazine. An additional loaded magazine was also located in the purse. A total of 20 rounds of ammunition were collected at the scene.
