Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting three additional deaths of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. All three individuals were over 70 years of age with underlying health conditions and one individual was associated with a congregate living facility. Two individuals resided in Santa Maria, and one individual resided in the South County Unincorporated Area.
Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.
“We are saddened by the loss of these community members and extend our condolences to their friends and loved ones. While we continue to combat COVID-19, we urge residents to please stay at least 6 feet away from others you do not live with, wear face coverings when outside of your home, and avoid gatherings,” said Van Do-Reynoso, Santa Barbara County Public Health Director.
Santa Barbara County reports 139 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, and regrettably 187 new cases and 3 additional deaths today, 8/10/20. The confirmed case count is 6996. To prevent duplication, 34 previous cases have been removed.
In addition, the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s report has determined that the COVID-19 related death in May, as reported by the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Lompoc and media, was in fact not COVID-19 related. The Public Health Department had been awaiting the Coroner’s report and therefore had not yet counted this death as a COVID-19 related death. The overall count of COVID-19 deaths related to the Lompoc Prison as reported by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and media outlets should be decreased by one.
There are currently 306 active cases with 84 hospitalizations including 31 in the intensive care unit (ICU). There have been 72 deaths.

Cottage Health is caring for a total of 283 patients across all campuses.

226 are acute care patients; 162 acute care beds remain available.

Of the 226 acute care patients, 17 patients are on ventilators.
73 ventilators remain available (adult, pediatric and neonatal ventilators). -
Of the 226 acute care patients, 33 are in isolation with COVID-19 symptoms;
30 are confirmed COVID-19 positive. -
Of the 33 patients in isolation, 11 patients are in critical care.

From July 27 – August 2:
3,259 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
Results: 137 positive, 3,122 negative -
From August 3–9:
2,678 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
Results: 120 positive, 2,381 negative, 177 pending
So after closing or moving our businesses outside these numbers look similar as they were 3 weeks ago when he gave the order. Am I correct in this? I actually want to know, I’m being sincere.
It’s not that simple. We don’t really see outcomes for 2-3 weeks. There are alot of variables. How long it takes people to get sick and/or end up in the hospital [which could happen right away or even up to 2 weeks after getting sick], test turnaround times, and other things. Plus, there are still people gathering and having parties, not to mention the Fiesta cruiser even that went down over the weekend [SB’s “Sturgis”]. You can’t tie it to one thing necessarily.
Good question @9:38 pm. It’s actually been over a month. The second shutdown was before the 4th of July. So yep, we’re pretty much in same boat which tells us people were not getting sick inside salons, gyms, restaurants etc. Just like we thought. Sandys, the cruiser run was on Sunday into the afternoon. You really think any of those positive test from Sunday or Monday are from that? I am going with a big NO. That would mean I rode my bike Sunday morning, got tested in the afternoon and my test came back the same day. That did not happen but nice try.
I knew it was ya coming from us. I own a spa we were only allowed to open for 2 weeks before being shut down again. Cases were already rising before they opened us. Problem is is every time we’re shut ppl think we’re are the problem but we never were. Not 1 case has been traced back to salons and spas Of a client getting it there. I’ve asked public health. The damage they have done to our businesses is huge. Even if they do open us they’ve been telling everyone we’re high risk without the data to back it up.

420722 Where did I say any of the current numbers have to do with the Santa Barbara Sturgis event? I didn’t. We will see in about 1-3 weeks though, once testing comes through and the delays are accounted for.
@sandys why are you so hellbent on acting like covid is no big deal? in case you didnt notice, america is kind of super mega crippled by it right now and we’re only 5-6 months in AND cases are on the rise.
Number of hospitilizations is the most important number we should all be tracking. Everything else is a factor of our crappy testing system. Its’ what I’ve been saying since day 1. This is not about preventing people from getting sick, it’s about preventing the hospital system from collapsing. As long as hospilizations remain stable we’re ok. While hospitilizations are up from 2 months ago, they have stabilized. We have room to test the system.
420722 it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if you actually participated in the cruiser run. You’re so smug and proud of your “rebellious” nature, aren’t you? People like you are why our kids can’t go back to school next week. I really hope you realize that.
I get that. It’s just so hard to be now shut down for 5 months seeing my friends businesses close, mine hardly hanging on. Friends now living in their cars. All of our businesses have been ripped from us. And we need help
No. China is the reason your kids can’t go back to school right now. And people are sick and dying, and we can’t see our friends and family. Or go to concerts, ball games. We are the victims. All of us.
