The 34th annual California Avocado Festival originally scheduled for the first weekend of October in Carpinteria will not be held due to the Coronavirus. That doesn’t mean the celebration will go underground for the year, organizers are setting up a booth at the Thursday Farmer’s Market selling Avo Fest gear and raising funds for the local community. Posters, tee shirts, masks, beach towels and other swag will be on sale to help with scholarships and grants that Carpinterians have counted on for over 30 years.
Avo Fest President Gary Dobbins has seen the funds distributed by the annual festival help hundreds of local businesses and individuals. “Last year we put over $150,000 directly into the community and we want to see if we can continue that tradition,” said Dobbins.
Even without the upbeat playing or the Avocado beer and Ice Cream flowing, the Avo Fest will do everything they can to support Carpinteria. There may be no festival this year but the enthusiasm of the Avo Fest crowd is hard to keep down.
Carpinteria’s Farmer’s Market is held every Thursday from 3 to 6:30 pm on Linden Avenue.
